ConcernedApe Returns to Develop Haunted Chocolatier RPG
Dec 11,2024
After its initial announcement in October 2021, the pixelated management RPG, Haunted Chocolatier, developed by ConcernedApe, has faced delays due to updates for Stardew Valley. However, there's good news: Eric Barone, the game's creator, has returned to focus on this exciting new project, bringing updates on its current status.
A Unique Setting and Gameplay
Unlike the pastoral charm of Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier transports players to a quaint shop attached to an ancient castle. Here, players take on the role of a chocolatier, tasked with managing the shop, gathering unique ingredients, and crafting special chocolates to fulfill the requests of local townsfolk. The game promises a larger exploration world compared to its predecessor, providing players with a fresh experience.
Development Challenges and Progress
In a recent blog post, Barone explained that the development of Stardew Valley version 1.6, initially intended for technical improvements and mod support by other team members, ultimately led him to contribute new content. This decision inadvertently caused a temporary halt in the progress of Haunted Chocolatier. Despite these setbacks, the game has already reached a playable internal demo stage, complete with a foundational framework.
Future Plans for Haunted Chocolatier
Barone is now focused on refining this existing framework and adding the remaining game content to create a complete experience. He acknowledges the anticipation surrounding Haunted Chocolatier and understands that some fans may feel let down by the slow development pace. "I know many are looking forward to Haunted Chocolatier and might be disappointed by the progress," he shared. "When it's finally completed and released, I will be thrilled. However, like Stardew Valley, I won't be doing early access, crowdfunding, or pre-orders, which helps alleviate external pressure to meet specific deadlines."
Community Support and Expectations
Barone emphasized that while he feels pressure from having announced the game early, he believes most players prefer a polished product over a rushed release. The community's support for Stardew Valley has shown that quality is the primary concern for players, allowing developers the time they need to deliver a satisfying experience.
Potential for Expanded Content
As development progresses, there are opportunities for Barone to introduce new gameplay mechanics and features that could enhance the overall experience. Players are eager to see how he plans to integrate elements like seasonal events or character interactions that could deepen the game's narrative and engagement.
Exploring Themes of Magic and Mystery
With its setting in a haunted castle, Haunted Chocolatier presents a unique opportunity to explore themes of magic and mystery. The storyline could incorporate local legends or ghostly figures that add depth to the gameplay, providing players with intriguing quests and challenges.
Release Timeline and Platforms
Currently, there is no confirmed release date or platforms for Haunted Chocolatier. Barone assures fans that while it may take some time, the focus remains on creating a game that meets the high standards set by Stardew Valley. The journey of development continues, and players are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as the project evolves.
